Disclosure first: MeetingCoach is my product. I'll tell you exactly where Otter beats it anyway, because half the people landing on this page should genuinely use Otter.
What each tool actually does
Otter is the elder statesman of meeting AI. Its bot (OtterPilot) joins your Zoom, Teams, or Meet call, records it, transcribes it in real time, and files everything into a searchable cloud workspace. Months later you can search "pricing discussion with Acme" and find the exact sentence. That archive is the product.
MeetingCoach doesn't build an archive and doesn't send a bot. It runs quietly on your Mac, listens to the live conversation, and surfaces short coaching cues in an overlay only you can see — talk less, land the ask, pin down that vague commitment. Everything runs on your machine. When the meeting ends, nothing has left your Mac.

Where Otter wins
- The searchable archive. If you need to pull receipts from a call three months ago, nothing here competes. MeetingCoach deliberately keeps nothing in the cloud, so there's nothing to search later.
- Team visibility. Shared workspaces mean your whole team can read any call. Managers love it (your reports have feelings about it, but that's between you and them).
- Works everywhere. Phone, browser, any platform. MeetingCoach is Mac-only.
Where MeetingCoach wins
- It changes the meeting you're in. Otter can transcribe you rambling with perfect accuracy. It will never tell you to stop. A cue at minute two beats a transcript at minute sixty.
- No bot in the room. The moment "Otter.ai has joined the meeting" appears, people talk differently. MeetingCoach is invisible — to your counterpart and to your screen share.
- Privacy, for real. Every word of every Otter meeting lives on their servers. MeetingCoach's transcription and AI run entirely on your Mac. WiFi off, still works. If your calls involve anything confidential, this is the difference that matters.
- Math. Otter Pro is $204/year, every year. MeetingCoach is $20, once.
My honest verdict
Otter and MeetingCoach barely overlap. Otter is institutional memory; MeetingCoach is personal improvement. If you're a researcher, journalist, or PM who lives in old transcripts — Otter, no hesitation, the free 300 minutes will tell you fast if you need Pro.
But if you've ever left a call knowing you talked too much, buried your ask, or accepted a "sounds good" that turned out to mean nothing — a transcript of that call is just documentation of the problem. MeetingCoach is $20 to start fixing it, and if it doesn't, I'll refund you within 30 days.
