What each tool actually does
Granola sits quietly on your Mac (no bot joins the call), captures the audio, and blends your rough typed notes with an AI-written summary after the meeting. The output is a clean document: decisions, action items, context. It's a memory tool.
MeetingCoach also sits quietly on your Mac with no bot — but it works in the opposite direction. While you're talking, it applies a coaching rubric to the live conversation and surfaces short cues in a small overlay: you're monologuing, you skipped the ask, that "sounds good" wasn't actually a commitment. The overlay never shows up in screen shares. It's a behavior tool.

Where Granola wins
- Notes. This is the whole category and Granola is excellent at it. MeetingCoach doesn't compete here — it's not a notetaker.
- Cross-platform. Windows, iOS, shared team folders. MeetingCoach is Mac-only, on purpose.
- Free tier for light users. Under ~25 meetings of history, Granola costs you nothing.
Where MeetingCoach wins
- It works during the meeting. A summary of the meeting where you talked 80% of the time doesn't fix the next one. A nudge at minute two does.
- Privacy is absolute. Granola's notes run through cloud AI models. MeetingCoach's transcription and AI run entirely on your Mac — turn WiFi off mid-meeting and it keeps coaching. For legal, healthcare, M&A, or anyone under NDA, that's not a feature, it's the requirement.
- Pricing. $20 once vs $14/user/month forever. Granola Business costs more every seven weeks than MeetingCoach costs ever.
My honest verdict
If you finish meetings and think "what did we decide?" — buy Granola, or just use their free plan.
If you finish meetings and think "why did I talk that whole time?" or "I never actually asked for the sale" — that's the problem I built MeetingCoach for. And since neither app puts a bot in your call, they run side by side without conflict: Granola for the record, MeetingCoach for the rep.
